Bank holidays

The UK has few National Holidays compared with some countries. The National Holidays are sometimes referred to as Bank Holidays in England & Wales.

As a general rule, most shops and businesses (except large supermarkets, chain stores and convenience shops) are closed on National Holidays and public transport runs to a limited timetable (or not at all). You will find that on Christmas Day there will be no shops open or public transport running.
